I recently played a few games of The Old World using my Ogre Kingdoms army. Nothing really changed with base sizes so it's easy to get started playing right away. I played against my friend Scott's Tomb Kings army.
My initial reaction is that the TOW plays very well with movement and such, but I miss having a dedicated Magic Phase. But Close Combat is where there is a huge difference. I prefer 8th edition Close Combat rules better...maybe just because I'm so used to them? Verdict is still out...
With the release of Warhammer: The Old World, my club has been truly excited. I am going back to my Warhammer origins and collecting and painting up a brand new Bretonnian army. I have some Bretonnians from 8th edition and with the new TOW Bretonnian Starter Set, I'll have a complete 2000pt. army to work with.
Way back in 1987, I started collecting (but not really painting 🤷🏻♂️) Bretonnians. They were my first Warhammer army. I combined what I had with my friend's Bretonnians to have a complete, albeit unpainted, 3000pt. 3rd edition Bretonnian army. During Covid lockdown, I set about acquiring the rest of what I needed to field a complete 3000pt. army of my own!
